Music rights management is inherently complex, involving deeply interconnected data across catalogs, compositions, releases, artists, deals, splits, and invoicing. Patchbay needed an internal system that could support this complexity while remaining fast, reliable, and cognitively efficient for expert users who work with the platform every day. Legacy tools in this space often introduce friction through cluttered interfaces, brittle workflows, and poor scalability, making auditing and issue resolution time-consuming and error-prone. The challenge was to create a robust internal product that embraced complexity without overwhelming its users.

Odenn Studio partnered with Patchbay to lead the end-to-end design of their internal rights and catalog management platform. Our approach focused on building a cohesive design system rather than a collection of disconnected screens. Using principles of progressive disclosure, status-driven UX, and reusable interface patterns, we enabled users to scan large datasets quickly, surface operational issues instantly, and take action without losing context. Dense, table-based layouts, inline editing, real-time validation, and contextual detail panels allowed teams to manage complex relationships — such as splits, identities, and releases—with confidence and efficiency. By designing for expert users who value speed and accuracy, we reduced reliance on external spreadsheets and manual workarounds while ensuring the platform could scale as Patchbay’s catalog and operations grew.
